MPR KICKS OFF THE MEETING OF 2024 OPEC ANNUAL QUESTIONNAIRE (AQ) EXERCISE.

Federal Government through the Ministry of Petroleum Resources recently kicked off the meeting of 2024 Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) annual questionnaire (AQ) exercise in Abuja.

Speaking at the meeting, the Director Overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary (DOOPs) MPR. Mr. Usman Abdulkadir highlighted the Ministry’s long standing dedication to the AQ exercise.

He called for timely and high-quality data submissions from all Technical Agencies and reaffirmed the Ministry’s readiness to provide leadership throughout the process.

In her opening address, the representative of the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the Ministry and Deputy Director (Research and Statistics) Mrs. Celine Obiechina described the AQ exercise as an essential tool for market analysis and underscored Nigeria’s pivotal role in supporting global market stability amid dynamic transitions.

A detailed presentation on the AQ process was delivered by the representative of Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Mrs. Ijeoma Israel- Ola. She outlined key timelines and noted that all member countries are expected to submit completed questionnaires by May 9, 2025, with internal deadlines set for May 2nd , 2025 and a review meeting scheduled for May 7th, 2025.

The questionnaire covered several components, including oil balance, infrastructure, natural gas, and macroeconomics, with responsibilities assigned to the participating agencies.

The presentation also addressed challenges from previous years, including data gaps and conversion inconsistencies. Mrs. Ola stressed the need for adherence to established guidelines, and updates revealed that NMDPRA had completed 40% of its assigned tables, while NNPCL had achieved 60% completion.

It was noted that the physical OPEC meeting is scheduled to take place from 10th to 11th, June 2025 in Vienna and Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will provide visa support for the delegates.

The meeting was attended by the representatives of the following agencies: National Population Commission (NPC), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (Commission), Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Others are: Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN).

The session marked a significant milestone in Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to accurate, timely and transparent data reporting to OPEC.
