Ministry of Petroleum Resources launches Performance Management System (PMS) Day

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Amb. Nicholas Agbo Ella, has officially designated every Thursday as Performance Management System (PMS) Day in the Ministry in line with the directive of the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation

This initiative aims to promote awareness, institutionalize PMS across all Ministry offices, and enhance operational efficiency.

At the PMS Core Team and Champions’ inauguration, Amb. Ella emphasized the significance of this change, stating that,
“There’s no going back to the old APER form. I urge everyone to commemorate PMS Day, commit to this change, and transition our operations to a paperless setting.”

In line with the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation’s guidelines, team members are encouraged to wear official PMS T-shirts and caps every Thursday.

Amb. Ella expressed gratitude to the PMS champions of the Ministry for their support and dedication to the initiative .

In her remarks, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Esther Walson-Jack, congratulated the Management, PMS Core Team, and Champions.

Mrs. Walson-Jack who was represented by Mr. Kingsley Okpokiri praised the Ministry’s initiative, saying, “Your dedication to enhancing accountability and efficiency is exemplary.”

She said participation in PMS Day with T-shirts and caps demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to the revolutionary endeavour.

She also commended the Ministry’s leadership for complying with the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation’s directives, and maintained that unannounced Thursday visits to Ministries would be carried out to ensure PMS Day compliance and effective performance practices.

The Director of Human Resources Management in the Ministry, Mrs. Adaji Asma’u Shehu noted that Thursdays are now officially PMS Day nationwide.

She encouraged all officers to wear T-shirts and caps every Thursday, with the PMS Core Team and Champions donning jackets, adding that, the main goal is to institutionalize the Performance Management System across the Ministry

Mrs. Adaji urged everyone to promote awareness and commitment, ensuring the Ministry excels in PMS initiatives, assuring that, the Ministry’s PMS team would make the Ministry proud of its Performance Management System commitment

This initiative aligns with the Federal Civil Service’s reform efforts, where the Performance Management System is a key pillar .

Ministry of Petroleum Resources therefore, joined other Ministries by embracing this system, which aims to improve service delivery and promote accountability in the civil service.
