He stated that in the last few years, he had chaired some committees in the energy sector and discovered that no other sector of our economy was in more crucial need of transition than the Oil and Gas Sector.
The Vice President noted that a larger chunk of Nigeria’s population was without power and jobs. Osinbajo said jobs must be provided for these Nigerians without necessarily increasing Global Warming hence the need for Nigeria to as a matter of fact embrace the transition to cleaner energy which Gas provided. He therefore emphasized that Gas should be developed to enable it play its role in the quest for providing clean energy for cooking and other uses thereby aligning with the theme of this summit: Global Perspective for a Sustainable Energy Future.
Earlier in his opening comments, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Amb. Gabriel Tanimu Aduda, informed the Vice President that he was happy to have him personally at Summit where he would declare open the exhibition and enrich his knowledge on the major developments in the Sector.
Aduda further said that Nigeria should look into the future with hope because every Nigerian uses one form of energy or the other. “The rapid changes in the Sector means that we must key into the scheme of things and play our part as a major Global Player”, he posited.
He stated quite categorically, that Africa in general and Nigeria in particular had to start looking at moving from fossil fuel to clean energy and cleaner ways of production that are emerging in the Oil and Gas Sector.
